SERVICES
At The Lucas Center we have trained professionals to help parents decide if their child needs an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or a 504 plan. Unfortunately, many schools and school districts mislead parents about IEPs. They tell parents their child won't be able to get into college if they have an IEP in Elementary school. This is not true. The school districts simply do not want to pay the costs associated with an IEP. They have no cost with a 504 plan. At The Lucas Center we have professionals with over 20 years experience who can attend an IEP meeting to ensure your child is receiving what they need from the school so your child can benefit from their education.

THE LUCAS CENTER'S
PHILOSOPHY
CLIENTS
Our clients are parents who have children with learning disabilities, chronic or serious health problems and children with emotional issues. Often these children need extra services provided in an IEP to benefit from their education. Very often parents cannot get a school district to assess their child for an IEP or qualify their child for an IEP. We are here to help parents get their child tested and qualified for the IEPs they deserve. We also help parents whose child has been referred to the SARB committee. We explain the process and again help the parents make the right decision for their child.ourooOENTS WHO HAVE CHILDREN WITH LEARNING DISABILITIES

ABOUT US
The Lucas Center was founded by Dr. Michael Rubino, a licensed Marriage, Family and Child Therapist, in 2003 in memory of his nephew Lucas Michael Rubino, who passed away at 18 months from a very rare heart condition. Lucas had a love for life and people. He lived everyday making every moment count. He also inspired all of his doctors, nurses, family and friends who saw the love for life and people that he had and how he shared that love with everyone he came in contact with.
Lucas' family had three generations of family members in the educational system. They knew Lucas would need extra help at school and it would be dfficult to get. After Lucas passed away, his family decided that The Lucas Center would be the best way to honor Lucas. The Lucas Center ensures that other children who have learning disabilities, medical issues or emotional issues will benefit from their education and they can do so being the happy children they are.
Unfortunately, many school districts mislead parents about IEP and 504 Plans. They are not the same. Also an IEP will not stop your child from getting into college, getting a job and it will not bankrupt a school district.
At The Lucas Center, we are therapists and educators who have worked in special education for over 20 years. We also know the advatages and disadvatages to an IEP and 504 plan. We are here to educate families about IEPS and 504 plans so you can decide what is best for your child. We know this can be overwhelming and stressfull. Therefore, we have staff that can attend IEP meetings with you and staff that can help you ensure that your child is assessed for an IEP, if they need to be.
In short, weare a group of professionals with over 20 years experience dealing with the IEP and 504 process. We are also here to pass on our information to you so your child can make the most of each day like Lucas did.
In addition to helping with the IEP process, we realize that there are children who get into trouble because they are not receiving the support that they need at school. Many of these children also deal with low self-esteem and depression. Yes children do suffer from depression. In fact, according to the CDC, suicide is third way that most 10 year old children die. If your child is getting into repeated trouble at school or you suspect they may be depressed or dealing with depression, Dr. Michael Rubino specializes in assessing and treating children. Dr. Rubino can assess your child and let you know what you need to do to help your child and what the school can do to help. Dr. Rubino will also meet with your child's school to help you get these changes made.
